Georgia is a country situated between Eastern Europe and Western Asia. It has an area of 69,700 square kilometers (26,911 sq mi). The population of the country is around 4.01 million. It is a very mountainous country and one-third of its area is covered by forest.
The country has a high landscape diversity and low latitude ranging from subtropical Black Sea shores to the snow of the Caucasus.
Western Georgia has a humid subtropical climate. Eastern Georgia has a varying climate (moderately humid to dry). It rains heavily throughout the year in western Georgia (1,000 to 2,500 mm). Winter is mild and warm. The average temperature in summer is 22 °C.
The cultural heritage of Georgia is ancient and rich. The majority of the people in the country are Georgians; the rest are Armenians, Russians, Azerbaijanis, and others.
The language of Georgia, Georgian, is a member of the Kartvelian (South Caucasian) family of languages. In addition to the Georgian orthodox, there are Muslim, Russian Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic, Catholic, and Jewish communities.
Georgia’s population is aging; the birth rate is lower than the death rate. The economy in the country is diverse and agriculture-based. About half of the country’s GDP is accounted for by agriculture; the remaining is contributed by the labor force and service sector.
Georgia has coal deposits, peats, and marble resources. Some parts of the country also have manganese deposits. Oil deposits are also located under the Black Sea. The crops mainly grown in the country are tea and citrus fruits. The vineyards in the country are one of the most important branches of Georgian agriculture. Sugar beets, tobacco, and essential oils such as geranium, rose and jasmine are also produced.
The country has a high level of education. Several scientific institutions research the country. It also has an extensive library system. Public funds in the country provide free education, medical services, and other services.
